Custom Access Ramp Installation Sydney
Licensed NSW Builder 270939C | Custom access ramp solutions across Sydney, designed around site conditions, OT recommendations, client mobility needs and relevant Australian Standards where applicable.
Freedom Building Construction designs and installs custom access ramps across Sydney for homes where safer entry, wheelchair access or walker-friendly access is required.
Each ramp is assessed based on the client's mobility needs, available space, existing steps, site levels, drainage, handrail needs, funding requirements and any OT recommendations.
Where suitable, timber-framed ramps are often a practical option because they can be customised to suit uneven sites, existing homes and limited access areas. We can also consider aluminium, modular or threshold ramp options depending on the site and client needs.
All ramp recommendations and quotes are subject to site conditions, available space, gradient requirements, drainage, structural fixing points, funding approval and any OT-specific requirements.

Access Ramp Design Considerations
Every access ramp needs to be assessed individually. Important design factors include:
- available space and ramp length
- safe gradient based on client mobility and site conditions
- level landings where required
- slip-resistant ramp surface
- handrails and edge protection where required
- connection to existing paths, driveways or entry doors
- drainage and long-term durability
- OT report requirements, where provided

Case Study: Accessibility Integration in Lindfield
Client need: safer access from street level to a lower-level home
Site challenge: steep garden topography and multiple existing stairs
Solution: custom access ramp designed around the site and OT requirements
Outcome: safer, more dignified access for the client and carer
In this project located in Lindfield, the property presented a significant architectural challenge: the residence sits at a lower elevation than street level, with the original entry accessible only via multiple sets of stairs.
The Challenge
The site's steep topography created a restrictive environment for the client and their elderly carer. Our objective was to replace the existing stairs with a solution that met stringent accessibility standards while navigating the garden's natural incline.
The Solution
We collaborated closely with a specialized Occupational Therapist based in Campsie to design a bespoke wheelchair access ramp. To ensure the highest standards of safety and structural integrity, the ramp was engineered and constructed in full compliance with AS1684 where applicable (Residential Timber-Framed Construction).
This collaborative approach ensured that the ramp's gradient, width, and structural support were perfectly tailored to the client's specific physical requirements and the site's unique demands.
The Outcome
The completed ramp provides a seamless, safe, and dignified access to the home. By removing the physical barriers of the original site, we have significantly enhanced the daily independence of the client and improved ease of access for their carer.
Access Ramp FAQ
Do I need an OT report for an access ramp?
Not always. Private clients can request a ramp assessment directly. For Support at Home, HCP or NDIS-funded work, an OT report is often required by the provider or funding body.
Can you quote from photos?
Yes. For many standard ramp enquiries, photos and basic measurements help us provide initial guidance. More complex ramps may require a site visit before final pricing.
Do you only build timber ramps?
No. We provide custom access ramp solutions. Timber-framed ramps are often practical for Sydney homes because they can be customised on site, but aluminium, modular or threshold options may also be suitable depending on the situation.
Are ramps always built to AS1428?
Ramp design considers AS1428 access principles where applicable, but the final solution depends on site conditions, available space, OT requirements and the type of home. We do not force a standard solution where the site requires a custom approach.
Can you work with OTs and care providers?
Yes. We regularly work from OT recommendations and can provide quotes, scope descriptions and completion photos for providers and case managers.
What areas do you service?
We install custom access ramps across Greater Sydney, including the Inner West, Ryde, Chatswood, Parramatta, Burwood, Western Sydney and surrounding suburbs.
